This is originally for an assignment for my reading class. There are only 3 reasons, honestly (SPOILER!!), and the rest is just totally unnecessary comments. That's why it's 1000 words. And ten actually. Happy reading :)

WHY DO YOU LIKE A PARTICULAR PERSON

“Kim Jongin”

Hello, everyone. How are you doing? I hope everyone is doing great today. Let me introduce myself first. My name is Umi Sa’adah, and I am here to tell you about my “Why Do You Like a Particular Person” essay. I’m going to tell you guys the reason first then you can guess who am I talking about.

First thing first, I may sound ridiculous because what I’m going to tell you sounds absolutely tacky and cheesy. But it is what it is and I’m going to tell you the way it is.

For starter, I first saw him in 2012. He was all sweaty and rolling his hips like there was no tomorrow. My first thought about him was : EW. But, that was only because I barely knew him, who he was and what he did. I saw him again in early 2013, and there was something different about him. He still rolled his hips like there was no end to it, but I didn’t even think of thinking “EW”. I didn’t know why but when I saw him like that again, he looked kinda passionate. It didn’t make sense, really, because what was so passionate about rolling hips anyway? And at that time I started to think and see differently of him, but not so much that I almost didn’t recognize him when I saw him again on May 2013 because, wow. He’d totally changed, because where has that innocent looking but not so innocent in hip rolling guy gone?

That’s my first impression of him. But that’s also what I love about him. His passion in dancing, how he pours all his everything in dancing like his life is depending on it. But that’s not all the reason. This won’t be a nice essay with only one reason of why I like a particular person.

Other thing I love about him is his ol’ wise heart. He’s only 20 for God’s sake but he speaks of wisdom like a 50 year-old very-much-experienced man. He writes things on his group’s website that will make all the girls’ heart not just melted but also evaporate into finer feelings of affection and respect. This guy’s wisdom is no joke, I’m telling you. His best advice he’s ever given is to not catch a cold and to wear socks to keep us warm. Isn’t he adorable? Well, he needs to wear some socks himself, actually, because FYI, he really hates wearing socks and he catches cold easily. What a dork.

Another reason why I like him is his punctuality. He was still a high school student when he got into training. But according to a report from his high school teacher, eventhough he was in training, his attendance in school was excellent. Training usually takes more than 4 to 5 hours and it will totally drains your energy. He probably only slept during class but that’s better than skipping class for no reason. I feel very ashamed while I was writing this. I don’t train, I don’t even have anything to do—except homeworks, but even that is usually “due-Monday-do-Monday” kind of homeworks—yet, I skip class for very silly reasons. My stomach is too full I don’t feel like studying, I’m hungry let’s ditch class, you’re ditching then I’m ditching too. That is silly and non sense and I’m so ashamed of it. I’m ashamed of myself.

And what about him? He doesn’t like people who neglect their study for silly reasons. Well, he doesn’t have time for himself, even more for having a proper education, going to school like a normal person, so him not liking people who ditch school because they want to, is pretty much understandable.

There is this quote I really love from him that I use for motivation everytime I don’t feel like studying.

“If you don’t get good grades, don’t think about liking me. Even if I seem like the most important thing in the world right now, after a while, you’ll regret it. You’re in your last year of school now, and it may be the most important period of your life, so rather than me, focus on your studies, and we can meet again after you become someone you and I are proud of.”

Such a wise kid.

You might already guess it, so I’m just going to tell you who he is. The one and only Kim Jongin from EXO. It is so not cool to make a boygroup member as a person I particularly like, but this is all my choice, right?

Now, the thing is, I like him not only for his good looks, his porn-star-wannabe dancing or his sexy sweaty body, but also for all the reasons I’ve mentioned before. He’s managed to not only make all the girls swoon but also motivated because of what he says. On the official group site or the official fan site. He behaves like a 5 year-old kid, with a 20-year-old body, and a 60-year-old wisdom, and I love and thank him for that. I really hope I can say the same thing to him in person or through a letter. Whichever way is fine. I just really want to tell him how grateful I am for everything he’s done, to his fans—to me, though indirectly. I just want to tell him that there are people in this world that are grateful even for his sole existence only and I want to be the representative to tell him that directly, someday. It’s a mission.

One last thing. Quoting one of the best fan of Kim Jongin, Valerie Patricia,

“Kim Jongin is like a home. Wherever I go, I will always return to him, the place where I belong to.”

That is the exact same feeling I feel for him. With a little bit more of love, a little bit more of respect and a little bit more of gratitude. Thank you and I love you.

Digital Library

A digital library is a library in which collections are stored in digital formats (as opposed to print, microform, or other media) and accessible by computers. The digital content may be stored locally, or accessed remotely via computer networks. A digital library is a type ofinformation retrieval system.

In the context of the DELOS, a Network of Excellence on Digital Libraries, and DL.org, a Coordination Action on Digital Library Interoperability, Best Practices and Modelling Foundations, Digital Library researchers and practitioners produced a Digital Library Reference Model which defines a digital library as: "A potentially virtual organisation, that comprehensively collects, manages and preserves for the long depth of time rich digital content, and offers to its targeted user communities specialised functionality on that content, of defined quality and according to comprehensive codified policies."

Actually, this document contains a Digital Library Manifesto which introduces the three types of relevant ‘systems’, i.e. Digital Library, Digital Library System, and Digital Library Management System. It describes the main concepts characterising these systems, i.e., organisation, content, user, functionality, quality, policy and architecture. It introduces the main roles that actors may play within digital libraries, i.e., end-user, manager and software developer. Finally, it describes the reference frameworks needed to clarify the DL universe at different levels of abstraction, i.e., the Digital Library Reference Model and the Digital Library Reference Architecture.

The first use of the term digital library in print may have been in a 1988 report to the Corporation for National Research Initatives. The termdigital libraries was first popularized by the NSF/DARPA/NASA Digital Libraries Initiative in 1994. These draw heavily on As We May Think by Vannevar Bush in 1945, which set out a vision not in terms of technology, but user experience. The term virtual library was initially used interchangeably with digital library, but is now primarily used for libraries that are virtual in other senses (such as libraries which aggregate distributed content).

A distinction is often made between content that was created in a digital format, known as born digital, and information that has been converted from a physical medium, e.g., paper, by digitizing. The term hybrid library is sometimes used for libraries that have both physical collections and digital collections. For example, American Memory is a digital library within the Library of Congress. Some important digital libraries also serve as long term archives, for example, the Eprint arXiv, and the Internet Archive.

In-Car Internet

BMW has unveiled a prototype Connected Drive at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, which is being held from 06 Mar 2008 – 16 Mar 2008. So what exactly is Connected Drive? It is a system that will allow drivers and passengers to surf online whilst traveling. But hold on, you can surf ONLY and ONLY when your car is NOT in motion. This surely makes sense or else the technology would have served to be quite a risk for the pedestrians.

Coming back to this highly innovative technology, the device can hit any URL, along with a string of custom favorites, and then display the result in the iDrive panel in the center of the dashboard.

The system is controlled with the iDrive controller, which when moved reflects a move of the cursor on the screen, while pressing it down acts as a left-button mouse click. What’s more, one can zoom into web pages as well by a factor of 1.5 or 2.0.

According to Technoride, while Connected Drive works on EDGE technology, BMW reformats pages on their own servers and then sends them to the car display. Users can also send and receive e-mails from the car, and in the future they would perhaps be able to access online banking sites too.

BMW claims that the display’s resolution is comparable to that on standard laptops

The latest BMW ConnectedDrive will be available as an option in all BMW models and its costs will be covered through a flat-rate plan. It will be available by anytime this year itself.

e-Voting

e-Voting berasal dari kata electronic voting yang mengacu pada penggunaan teknologi informasi pada pelaksanaan pemungutan suara.

Pilihan teknologi yang digunakan dalam implementasi dari e-Voting sangat bervariasi, seperti penggunaan kartu pintar untuk otentikasi pemilih yang bisa digabung dalam e-KTP, penggunaan internet sebagai sistem pemungutan suara atau pengiriman data, penggunaan layar sentuh sebagai pengganti kartu suara, dan masih banyak variasi teknologi yang bisa digunakan dewasa ini. Dalam perkembangan pemikiran dewasa ini penggunaan perangkat telepon selular untuk memberikan suara bisa menjadi pilihan karena sudah menggabungkan (konvergensi) perangkat komputer dan jaringan internet dalam satu perangkat tunggal.

Kondisi penerapan dan teknologi e-voting terus berubah seiring perkembangan teknologi informasi yang sangat cepat. Kendala-kendala e-voting yang pernah terjadi di berbagai negara yang pernah dan sedang menerapkannya menjadi penyempurnaan e-voting selanjutnya. Salah satu segi positif dari penerapan e-voting saat ini adalah makin murahnya perangkat keras yang digunakan dan makin terbukanya perangkat lunak yang digunakan sehingga biaya pelaksanaan e-voting makin murah dari waktu ke waktu dan untuk perangkat lunak makin terbuka untuk diaudit secara bersama. Salah satu konsep penerapan perangkat lunak adalah melalui Indonesia Goes Open Source (IGOS) dengan diperkenalkannya aplikasi e-Demokrasi pada tahun 2007.

Penggunaan di Indonesia

Penggunaan e-voting di Indonesia telah dilakukan dalam skala terbatas baik dalam lingkup organisasi, perusahaan maupun pemerintahan di skala paling kecil yaitu dusun atau desa.

Di Kabupaten Jembrana, Bali sejak pertengahan 2009 telah dilakukan puluhan kali pemilihan kepala dusun di desa-desa yang ada di kabupaten tersebut. Penggunaan e-voting di kabupaten Jembrana telah menghemat anggaran lebih dari 60 persen, seperti anggaran untuk kertas suara. E-voting ini juga diawali dengan penggunaan KTP (Kartu Tanda Penduduk) berbasis chip atau kemudian disebut juga e-KTP. Penggunaan e-KTP tersebut membuat pemilih tidak mungkin melakukan pemilihan lebih dari sekali. TPS (tempat pemungutan suara) juga bisa menampung hingga 1000 pemilih, sementara dengan sistem manual sekitar 500-700 pemilih saja per TPS yang layak.

Setelah Mahkamah Konstitusi memutuskan pada Selasa, 30 Maret 2010 bahwa penggunaan e-voting adalah konstitusional sepanjang tidak melanggar asas Pemilu yang luber dan jurdil maka e-Voting bisa dilakukan pada skala lebih luas di antaranya Pemilihan umum kepala daerah dan wakil kepala daerah (Pemilukada).

Kabupaten Jembrana, Bali sudah menyatakan kesiapannya untuk menyelenggarakan pemilihan bupati Jembrana pada bulan Oktober 2010 dengan e-voting. Namun berbagai kesiapan masih perlu dilakukan baik dari KPU maupun Bawaslu (Badan Pengawas Pemilihan Umum) dari sisi kesiapan SDM dan pemahaman mengenai e-voting itu sendiri. Juga harus dibuat perubahan Undang-Undang No.32 Tahun 2004 Tentang Pemerintahan Daerah sehingga paling cepat e-voting baru akan dilaksanakan di daerah lain pada tahun 2011.Namun khusus kabupaten Jembrana, Bali diharapkan bisa dilaksanakan menggunakan Peraturan KPU yang bisa diselesaikan sebelum Pemilukada di Jembrana dilaksanakan.

Terkait dengan Pemilu Nasional, CETRO juga pernah mengusulkan Pemilu Elektronik di tahun 2014 nanti dan dilakukan persiapan sejak saat ini (Agustus 2009 ketika diusulkan). Keputusan MK tersebut memberi jalan untuk Pemilu Elektronik di tahun 2014 yang harus diawali dengan selesainya Single Identity Number (SIN) untuk seluruh penduduk Indonesia yang direncanakan selesai pada tahun 2011.
